Job Summary:

The Manager – Procurement (Imports) is responsible for overseeing all procurement activities related to imported goods and materials. The role focuses on optimizing import logistics, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing vendor relationships, and streamlining inventory and supply chain operations to support business objectives and cost efficiency.

Primary Responsibilities :

Key Responsibilities:

Procurement & Sourcing:

  • Manage end-to-end procurement activities related to imports including vendor selection, purchase planning, and cost negotiation.

  • Coordinate with internal departments to understand purchase requirements and ensure timely order placements.

  • Evaluate and renew supplier contracts, ensuring compliance and cost-effectiveness.

Logistics & Import Operations:

  • Plan, manage, and evaluate logistics operations in coordination with suppliers, logistics partners, transportation companies, and customs house agents.

  • Ensure timely and cost-efficient transportation of goods through optimal carrier selection and negotiation of rates and terms.

  • Provide insurance coverage for all import shipments and manage corrective action plans when required.

Documentation & Compliance:

  • Ensure complete and accurate import documentation including Bill of Lading, invoices, packing lists, and customs declarations.

  • Stay updated with international trade laws, tariffs, licenses, and other regulatory requirements.

  • Collaborate with finance and banking teams for LCs (Letters of Credit), foreign currency allocation, and banking documentation.

Inventory & Performance Management:

  • Maintain and oversee inventory databases, ensuring accurate tracking of stock availability, usage, and movement.

  • Monitor slow-moving or obsolete inventory and implement disposal or optimization plans.

  • Implement and maintain supply chain metrics and KPIs to track performance, costs, and service levels.

Process Improvement:

  • Analyze existing procurement and logistics processes to identify inefficiencies and implement cost-saving measures.

  • Develop and implement logistics strategies and policies to improve operational efficiency and service quality.

  • Train and develop logistics and shipping team members to align with global logistics strategies.

Reporting & Coordination:

  • Generate and present reports on procurement performance, cost savings, vendor performance, and import compliance.

  • Coordinate with project teams, production, finance, and suppliers to align procurement timelines with operational goals.

  • Follow up on pending documentation, currency allocation, and banking-related matters to ensure smooth flow of imports.


Key Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of import/export laws, documentation, international trade compliance.

  • Expertise in logistics, supply chain operations, and vendor negotiation.

  • Familiarity with ERP systems like SAP, BOM (Bill of Materials), and customer/vendor data management tools.

  • Proficient in MS Office and reporting tools.

  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.

  • Strong understanding of inventory control, demand forecasting, and procurement strategy.


Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, International Trade, or related field; MBA preferred.

  • 6–10 years of relevant experience in procurement and import operations, preferably in manufacturing or trading industries.

  • Proven experience in dealing with international suppliers, logistics partners, and banks for trade finance.
